I think what BC said here is a misleading way of wording it. Not sure if it is intentional or not.
As, once again, AFC has zero affect on SUSTAINED SPEED (non acceleration) fuel/air enrichment. The AFC is nothing more than a throttle input regulator (injection event LENGTH regulator). At a given speed, the engine's lean/rich mixture is 100% controlled by the air flow. Now... the
exhaust lean/rich result (smoke,haze, etc..) is also controlled by timing, and the injection event (such as injection pressure, injection event lenght, compression, burn time, etc, etc...)
