PToombs wrote:Andy, on the side of the pump towards the rear is a large acorn nut, like a 15/16's or close to it. Pull that off and remove the plastic plug. The plug is the TDC lock. 1 side is short and the long side is slotted. Turn the engine over and at some point you will see a blade near the TDC point. Find TDC on the timing pin under the pump that goes in the cam gear. From TDC on the engine, then turn it over to get TDC on the pump. Put in the slotted side and screw on the nut to hold it in. Loosen the pump gear nut and pop the gear loose from the shaft. Turn the engine back to TDC. Snug the gear nut. Remove the pump TDC pin, then torque the gear nut.
You should be at stock timing.

Yeah I lined the pin up and had the engine at tdc but I wonder about it. Does that blade always set it back to stock timing or does it matter if the pump has been advanced before? I read somewhere that if you advance timing from say 14* to 18* then pin time it the pump will then be 18* whenever you pin time it again. Is that true?

Andy it will be set to factory timing like Pete said to line it up. You would have to change the timing internally on the pump for it to pin up with advance.

Andy, you said you have the timing tool for the p-pump? Do you know how to use it? I have instructions here if you need them.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

PToombs wrote:That sounds about right Matt. Did you squirt some oil in it and compression test it again? If it's low and you put in some oil and it comes up, then it's usually the rings.

I wasn't thinking - its a horizontal opposed piston engine. Squirting oil on it wouldn't work so well. I did put the heads back on and hooked it up my air compressor to listen for escaping air and it sounds like its leaking through the piston. I'll probably wind up selling the engine for parts. I have two other Onan P series (the current one is a BF) one of which is supposed to be a running engine. I'll pull those out and start checking to see if I can get one of those to run and just install it on the Wheel Horse.

Yeh. I sent in a couple pictures and they published it a bit over a year ago. 8) So I sent in some more stuff I built and they published that too. :D They've published my frost free non electric cow waterer and some chicken butchering equipment I made.

Here is the link to the frost free waterer

Glad to hear you made it back all right. Enjoy the parts, tools and information. They found a better home than a scrap yard.

Thanks, I needed a frost free waterer in a bad way. I didn't really have the $500 or so for an electric model and definately didn't have the $900 or so for the no electric version I modeled this one after, so I built one myself for $150. 8)

Does anybody have any tips for splitting a welder generator from the engine? Its a Lincoln Weldanpower g8000 with an Onan engine. From what I have read, its supposed to be a long tapered crank shaft.

Check this link out, had alot of good info.
You stealing the engine for your tractor? I'd be interested in the welder side if it all still works
