300-400rwhp.

Postby JQmile » Tue Mar 25, 2008 8:16 pm

Hey guys, just hit over 300rwhp easy, looking towards 400 and all that comes to mind is nitrous.....I know a lot of people thinking that "bottles are for babies" (others say they're crying all the way to the finish line).......so, does anyone know of a good way to go from 300 to 370-400rwhp? My ideas so far have been

1.Water/meth--pro--350+hp, con--cheating(?), dangerous w/too much timing.

2.Propane--pro--350+hp, con--cheating (?)

3.14mm h/r, compressor upgrade--pro---350+hp, con--still not the right turbo.

Ay other ideas? Is there a turbo/intercooler combo that can get me to 400rwhp with a 12mm pump for under a grand?

14mm H&R I would hold off on if you're gonna dd this thing. Propane I have seen to be effective on grills. The W/M is gonna be a good power adder and if the grill gets outta control you can use the water to keep it in check. LOL

KTA went 481 on a S300 (64/71) turbo and 12mm head and rotor and cylinder head work if I remember correctly. JAyers went 450ish (I don't remember exactly) with a 12mm pump fuel only, 586hp with nitrous, iirc. Lots of guys are in the mid to upper 300's with about the same combo as you but with an upgraded turbo. You can get a 62/71 S300 for less than a grand (see this thread: http://www.1stgen.org/viewtopic.php?t=2098&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=s300+s400&start=15).
That should be enough air for 400hp I would think. For an intercooler, pick up a 7.3l Powerstroke IC for about $100-$150, have TWorline build you some of his Cooler Tubz and you're set. Just make sure to get the Powerstroke IC with metal end tanks, not plastic (I've heard that the plastic tanks are fragile). To really break 400hp in a big way, you'll need bigger injectors. I think KTA used 6x.018's, not sure what others have done. And since you'll be pushing the stock headgasket and bolts to the limit at that point, pull the cylinder head, put in headstuds, and have some mild porting done to the head. That should get you where you want for an investment of about $2000, and if it still isn't fast enough, then spray it until it is.

I had 6x.016 injectors when I did 480+ on my 12mm stock pump, the 6x.018 made almost 30horse less.

Thanks for the correction. Interesting that the smaller injectors made more power. Was the 12mm head and rotor just not keeping up with the bigger injectors or was there something else going on?

So it looks like the cheap and dirty way would be with a homemade water/meth system......I just figure if I have a tank of something that is going to run out on me, it might as well be nitrous  . I think I'll skip 400hp and shoot straight for 600

I contributed it to too little pressure causing poor atomization.

Dave Dunbar will have his dynojet at the TS Performance event next month, April 26th I believe, in Bowling Green.

Depends on what part of Ky you are in I guess as to dynos. Skytower has one, there is one up here in Northern Ky bye me and there are a few more down around lexington. David Dunbars is the only one I like to spin though.
