Anybody ever take it out? I've heard of them doing it on the newer trucks but not much on these. How much would it help on my truck?

ive taken mine out and cut it half for a spacer but all the guts are gone, i have no idea if it helped because of all the other stuff i did at the same time, but some say it helps with flow

did you just put a bold all the way thru it or did u cut the ends off the grid and just tightened that up? There is power going to it and how would you stop it if you need to and if you leave power to it would it short that block out or what?

I made what I call my "Grid Heater Delete" option out of a block of aluminum. Swap in April, swap out in December. The grids are nice for cold starting, but they are a flow restriction.

i have no problem starting at -5c with out the grid as long as i have the ksb on

Yeah, never had a problem starting with or without the grid heaters at any temp. But the engine and my nostrils likes it alot better with the grids at anything below around freezing.

Ya I live in cali so I dnt realy have to worry bout it freezing to much. The coldest it gets out here is about 40 degrees

I bought one off of eBay and gutted it then opened it up to the edges of the gasket. That is what I run in the summer. I take the big wires and place them in some wire loom and hide them at the back of the engine, all you have to do so there is no current in them is unplug the small wires to the solenoids on the left fenderwell.

You can buy a plain spacer block. I have one on my truck and I have one on my toolbox for a buddy. I didn't want to ruin my grids because you just never know. Ya know?

On a nonIC'd truck, the bad thing about not running the grid heater element, is you have nothing to limit the amount of aluminum from entering the engine upon a turbo disaster.

Riiiiight! The grids keep the pieces going thru under 1/8 of an inch!

Just the big chunks LOL. Probly won't matter either way if your engine decides to ingest the compressor wheel :shock:

never thought of that but oh well i need a excuse to take my motor

but yes you can buy really cool grid heater replacments on ebay but they are kind of pricy i would make my own or buy a gride heater of ebay and gut it
