You can hear the wastegate opening? :o Weird!
1st gen trucks don't waste the pressure, we use it all baby! ;)

sure can, when he tromps on it then lets of the throttle she's loud.
on an other note what regulates the boost? won't it just build and build...?

You mean the turbo windown when you let off the throttle? Mine does that, and if you let off to quick, does a kinda woofZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz................
I'm not sure thats the wastegate.

Thats not a waste gate sound your hearing. Its called turbo bark. Its caused by letting off the throttle abruptly during high boost.

This is not good for the turbo.

I know, I have no wastegate..........You know, I just wonder how many times it will bark before it poops my stock turbo? I try hard not to, but sometimes, when accelerating with a trailer, someone pulls out in front of me, or something, and, woof. :?

the way my buddie explained it is when the turbo is producing boost and he lets of the throttle the pressure has know where to go and instantly rises to above set pressure and the waste gate dumps it. but now that i think about thats sounds more like a bov. because the waste gate is on the exhaust side it doesn't release pressure it just diverts exhaust gasses around the turbine. does that sound right.

Yes, it does divert the exhaust around the turbine, by pressure from the intake side, but I still think the sound you are liking is the turbo winding down. It's pretty neat sounding, really cool if you have no muffler.
