Intercooler Elbow - Please Help!

Postby justagoodolboy » Fri May 16, 2008 2:22 pm

Guys, I have searched until I am beyond pissed, but turning to my 1st gen brethren for help!

The aluminum elbow that comes out of the compressor and 90's into the 1st intercooler boot has busted and I obviously have a major boost leak. Problem is its the lip that holds the seal in place broke off around a quarter of the way, so there is no way to weld it or anything.

I cannot find it through PDR, HTT, or any other diesel shops I have dealt with in the past both online and locally. I got the PN from it and called my local Cummins shop where I am buddies with the parts manager and all he could find was what he called a intercooler boot something or another for $498. He suggested I called the dealer and I called two different ones here who say the only way to get that part from them is to order an entire turbo.

Does anyone know where to get this part or have one laying around they would part with? I am dead in the water and need my truck.

Thanks!

I had the same thing happen on my 93. I was having some work done at Ponci's Diesel and when he took the connector off it fell apart. He took the flanged section off a different sized housing, cut off the bad section on my housing and welded the other one on. Has been fine ever since (about two years now).

I just got a second gen one for my S300 on my 89. It has a 3 inch outlet and is only 70 degrees not a full 90. The part number is 3923178.

Like I told him, the 3" and 4", 2nd gen Dodge, industrial, Ford, Freightliner and other apps minus the 1st gen IC'd Dodge are very common and easy to come by. But the stocker he wants doesn't pop up very often. I have a few elbows laying around from various apps. I pass them up all the time at my local junkyard.
