hard start to no start

Postby mykal41 » Tue May 20, 2008 1:31 pm

My truck has been hard to start for a couple of days now and today it wont start. I have a fuel pressure gauge between my regulator and injection pump. I have 20lb of pressure while cranking. it drops to zero when I stop cranking. I have no fuel leaking from the pump. It is a fresh rebuild with about 500 miles on it. any info would be great..

I cant make up my mind. If there is air in the fuel lines the gauge would still show pressure. Just air pressure. I want to pressure test my fuel system from the tank to the lift pump. Does anyone know a good way to do that?

honestly the best way to do it with out spending money on fancy tools is to just take something to seal your tank filler up good then an air gun with regulator and seal it all into your tank and pressurize it.

Is the shut off solenoid clicking? Did you crack the injectors to see if you get a good spray? I would do those first. If the solenoid is suspect, remove the plunger and the spring and try it. If it starts, bad solenoid.

It sounds more like an air leak though, might be on the suction or the return. Either will let the fuel drop back to tank. Before you try to start it next time, pump the primer handle on the LP. Then try it.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Yes, it ran great for about 500 miles. Then i went to the home depot came outside and no go. I cranked her for a while and she fired up. It has progressively gotten worse. A little shot of ether and she fires right up. I will try to pressurize the tank and see if I have a leak.
