A popular performance-minded aftermarket modification is to replace the piece of flex hose with a straight metal pipe and two 45 degree silicone boots. I've seen a few guys do that, usually in conjunction with an Ole Smokey BHAF mount.

I don't know how that's supposed to flow better than the stock flex tube, but if the stock tube's broken it's probably cheaper to go that route.

This is the template most use: http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/faq/faq.php?display=faq&nr=160&catnr=20&prog=1&lang=en&onlynewfaq=1. It can be made from about 18 gauge or so sheetmetal. The filter is here: http://www.fleetfilter.com/Store_ViewProducts.asp?Cat=53. You want the Napa 2790 (Wix 42790). It can be cross referenced to other brands too. I just found this site: http://www.vulcanperformance.com/servlet/the-8%29-Filters/Categories. They have the BHAF filter a couple dollars less than the NAPA site does and they have the Outerwears cover for it as well. You'll want the Outerwears cover, it helps keep the big chunks from getting to the filter (makes the filter last longer) and it helps keep water off of the paper filter element.

This is the other site I was looking for: http://www.cumminsdatabase.com/read.php?id=15. Lots of different part numbers for BHAF's.

If you do what Begle suggested you will need to by a 4" to 3" conversion piece. Your H1C is a 3" intake and a BHAF will be 4".

I would highly suggest going the BHAF route, I noticed quite a difference. I still am using the stock hose though.

Yes, use ovrit's link. They make the conversions in the soft parts.

I would suggest trying to build as much of the plumbing out of 4" as you can so if/when you ever upgrade your turbo you won't have to trash the whole set up.
