steering box trouble

Postby T.winegar » Sat Jul 12, 2008 9:54 am

i have a 91 dodge that is not very responsive to the steering wheel. when i'm driving straight down the road, i can turn it to the right a 1/2 turn with no reaction from the truck. it is loose i think. how do i fix this? can i just tighten my steering box, or do i have to buy a new one?

It's the coupler....

You probably need to either rebuild/replace the steering coupler or get a new Borgeson steering shaft. Borgeson is the best option - u-joint will last alot longer than that crappy slip socket Dodge used.

It's the joint attached right behind the steering box. Just reach in there, grab ahold of it with one hand and try turning the shaft with the other hand to see for yourself.
