fuel leak around the fuel heater

Postby gear jammer 91" » Wed Jul 23, 2008 5:27 pm

The last time I changed my fuel filter, the fuel heater came off with it. This didn't seam to be a big deal, I just put it back on. This weekend I installed a low pressure piston lift pump and now I have noticed fuel seaping around my filter and fuel heater. So what I want to now is how do I go about tightening the fuel heater properly? and is there a gasket that I can replace between the heater and the head?

There is an o-ring between the head and the heater. I'm pretty sure it's a quad ring. (square o-ring) Pull the threaded stud, heater. Put in new o-ring, install the heater, then the stud. Use a drag link socket or cut a flat bar to fit the stud. Tighten it! ;-)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

did the same thing to mine, motor truck international in mount vernon was able to get the part i am pretty sure it's a special o ring though, a 50 cent o ring takes 15 dollars shipping though?

Don't forget handling. I'm sure they fondled it real good before they shipped it.

Get a REAL filter and forget that o-ring and heater nonsense once and for all:

I thought I needed the fuel heater? Your link won't work for me Ace, I got no problem buying a reel filter, I just don't know which one to buy.

I just found a head on eBay then looked up the biggest sized smallest micron rating fuel filter i could find that fit the thread size. This one is a Wix rated at 5 micron and about physically double the size of the stocker. But any similar type setup will work just as well as long as you can bolt it on somwhere and run the plumbing. That spot right on top of the frame rail there is a perfect location.
