Timing marks on pump drive gear?

Postby '83 chevy cummins » Sat Aug 02, 2008 2:46 pm

I recently bought a '93 Cummins from a buddy of mine to swap it into my 1983 Chevy K2500. For some reason known only to him he took the pump off the engine, and didn't bother to mark the gears(he did mark the pump mounting plate though). My question is what do I use to time it? There are 4 letters on the gear, but I'm not sure if they mean anything. Thanks for the help.

Letter E is the stock timing mark. C will be one tooth advanced.

I think you're gonna get a lot of mileage out of that drawing! ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I thought about making a detailed one for all the different pump types and improving the one above. But yes I think your right with people doing more of there own work it really helps to see what you cant find on the internet.

Thats why I like it here, as compared to... "other" sites. People here actually do their own stuff. I go to other forums and its more like, "which one should I buy?" and "it will be out of the shop thursday, i can't wait!"

The only thing I haven't personally done on my truck so far is rebuilding the IP. I like it that way. When something goes wrong I know exactly where to look!

Well, if you did it right in the first place, nothing would go wrong and you wouldn't need to know where to look...
