You know I would think that me being a school teacher I would get use to correcting my typo's. But then again I teach wood/metal shop so writing isn't part of my job description. I have 3.07's in my truck, if I ever swap to a NV4500 I'll have to remember they are worth some money.

Got 18.3mpg on the first tank with nothing changed. I think Im going to do 4in exhaust and maybe an intake of some sort this weekend and see how it changes. How many bolts need to be loosened to bump timing? I only see three but i cant find the 4th one. Thanks

18.3 is pretty darn good for crusin around. Mine gets 23mpg at 65mph, but drops to about 19 when it's city/hwy combined.

3 bolts on the front, 1 on the back, down low. It's on the bottom of the bracket that gets in the way of the shutoff solenoid. ;)

when you bump the timing, it might be a son of a bitch to get it to move at first. But once it does it'll move pretty easy. Or at least thats how mine was. You'll also need an obstruction wrench to do it.

Yeah I have been getting 20+ combined. I drive 55-65 on the freeway. I have the fuel screw turned up to edge of runaway. I am able to get about 415-420 miles on 3/4 of tank. As long as you cruise, this motor is very economical.

And I have two injectors that aren't popping correctly! That combined with my original 727, this thing ain't too bad.

But I wanted to step up to 5 or six hole injectors. Which would you guys recommend?

And I don't mean to jack your thread dude. :)

Also be sure that you oil is in good shape and that your air filter is clean. I changed mine and picked up about .5 Mpg. Air restrictions are no bueno.

Also, what kind of tire are you running? Because the wider the tire, the greater the rolling resistance. More rolling resistance begets less fuel mileage, due to the powertrain having to work a bit harder to get the vehicle moving.

I think there was a conversation about something like this in the engine forum here. I'm pretty sure it said about 1700 rpm is about the maximally effecient rpm for these pumps. I would not suggest detuning it. i tuned mine up some i could put away from semi's

Ive got an update on my mileage. I swapped a ported and drilled 12cm housing on, turned the fuel screw in a turn and a half, and bumped my timing my mileage went down to 15 something for a few tanks. The truck had a lot more go to it after all this. Then I turned my afc out 2 turns and mileage went up to 17.4. The truck still seems to have more power or at least better take off. I ran it like this almost all winter and worst tank was 16.8 and best was 17.5. I turned my afc out another half a turn so ill see what it does this next tank. Am I missing anything else? Would a intake help porduce any better gains or is the factory filter good enough for what im doing? Thanks

I don't know how long your truck idles in the morning, or the average temperatures there, but that won't help your mileage out any.

My odometer/trip stopped working, but i had a noticeable increase in mileage during a warmer week we had, compared to the rest of this winter and my required longer idle times.

Just something to think about, but the guys in Cali and the warmer climates have a lot easier time with mileage in that sense. I would have used a block heater if I had started driving this truck earlier in the winter, alleviating the above problem :)

Mileage

Postby opofus » Tue Mar 24, 2009 11:53 am

I have a 91.5 with new pump and marine injectors. The only thing I have done besides the injectors is a timing bump of about 1/4 of an inch. I have the dana 60 rear end. I get about 17.5 - 18 mpg, and I have a heavy foot. I like to see 20 psi boost and smoke on take off....
