engine swap question

Postby mprmn08 » Tue Dec 30, 2008 4:11 pm

How hard or extensive is it to transplant a 1st gen cummins into a 95 chassis that used to be a gas motor. How much stuff will i have to change and or modify or live without to do it. I know i have to change the brake booster, right, to the hydra boost system off our trucks but what else would be involved? thanks for any input.

Is the 95 A 2WD OR 4WD, what do you plan to do about a transmission? How many more parts are you willing to gather for the swap? Was it a V10 or a V8 gas truck?

The gasser trans will not work. It has to be a diesel trans.

You will need a diesel PCM and harness. Unhooking or leaving the engine harness unhooked will throw all sorts of error codes on the gasser PCM.

well ya. i plan on gettin rid of everything engine related with it. its a 1st gen cummins goin in so no pcm or bcm reguired for anything. now can those bell housings be switched or anything or do i need a whole new trans in order to keep it an auto?

You will need a diffrent transmission, one from a diesel, and you will of course need the flywheel housing and flexplate to go with it. Keep in mind with no pcm none of the stock instrument cluster will work. It also wouldn't charge without the 89-90 voltage regulator setup being wired in/ added to the system.
