fuel sticks!

Postby 1991cummins » Mon Dec 29, 2008 12:31 am

sorry if this is redundent, but, I'm guna get injectors!... In case you are unable to read my sig, I have a 4" downpipe with an S300 from PDR, pretty hot pump mods and a piston lp, a BHAF, and nice 3" intercooler hoses complements of tworline, i also have all the gauges to monitor everything... i am considering new era 370's, is that my best choice? they are a bit pricy (for my range,) so would the diesel gurus please compare them to POD's(CHEAP) for me? I don't do tooo much pulling, but I am 17 and i will be going to college next year (yee haw A&M!) so I will be doing some serious hay hauling this year (just like every other summer) to supplement tuition.

what do y'all think? please enlighten me,
Derek

POD's, it's always been said that they flow more than 370's. POD's are 4x.014 vs. 370's 5x.012. For the cheap hp upgrade, I'd go with the proven inexpensive POD's, not that I've got a set for sale though haha ;) !

If I just had my heart set on 370's, I'd bypass the middle man and pick up a used or probly even new set of 370's cheaper than the above mentioned shop and swap the tips into a 1st gen injector body myself.

I just wanna state that 370's will burn cleaner and not as hot as pod's. And depending on how much hay your hauling this could make a difference. You just doing what you can fit and you bed or are you getting a flat bed?

Umm, I pull either a 30ft flatbed or a 35ft dovetail, six or seven stacks high... Idk weight, but it's heavy... How much temperature difference will I see, cause my truck has never seen anyhting higher than 1300... And I don't intend for it to, so I need it to stay as cool as possible in a hard pull... I just don't know if it's worth the extra money to get new era...

Keep in mind with POD or 370 injectors you wont really have anymore towing power as they will be too hot, only more play power. That being said I would go with the cheapest ones you can get or get some 435's. Those would probably work for you too since either way you will be towing with your foot and backing out of it to keep egt's down. Then you would have a lot more play power. 8)

yah i know, i dont need too much long power, not many hills around here, i just want play power and low enough EGT's to reasonably pull :)... i will probably just go with POD's since they are cheap

maybe im just dense, but explain to me, if 370's and 435's are both 5 hole injectors and have the same spray angles (i assume) then why would 435's give me more power... i understand that you need more fuel for more power, but once combustion becomes "stochiametric" (perfect mixture of air and fuel) then thats it, more fuel means more smoke. so if 370's flow all the fuel i can burn, then what will 435's do for me??? does it atomize better perhaps?

thanks,
Derek

I believe 370's are 5X.012, and I would assume the 435's are bigger than that.

You can get the same amount of fuel in in with 435's with fewer degrees of crank angle than with the 370's. Basically by getting the fuel in quicker you can get it in when you need it so you can make more power with the same amount of fuel.

ahhhh, i see, so its a matter of spraying it faster, or quicker... which i assume would do a better job atomizing the fuel? no?
well i will see...

anybody got some 435's for sale??? or anything for that matter?

Bill, you're still trying to get rid of those? A nice set of used POD's usually don't last long at all. Just out of curiosity, how many miles are on them?
