hood release cable

Postby outlaw5.9 » Mon Dec 29, 2008 8:55 pm

My hood release cable is close to failure. I recall seeing posts on how to put a cable that can be accessed through the grill. I would love to see photos on how to do this. I don't want to be stuck with my hood shut as I can't start the truck with out it being plugged in and a battery charger on it.

I have to say, I do like DTR. Only because when you post a question, it seems like you get a response much faster. But I'm sure that is because there are a lot more members over there.

But, if you have a technical question, or more serious question then "will an HX35 work on my truck?" then this is the place to be. I think there are a lot more knowelgable people over here. If we could only get the software updated... ;)

the only thing i like about dtr is it is fast paced, but then i only pick out 3 or 4 threads to read out of the new ones. i read about every thread here. i like how you can joke around or say whatever you want without getting a threat of a ban. i regularly check 6 message board daily, and three of those are for diesel trucks. i check them in the same order every time. i go here 2nd (but its the 1st truck place i go). dtr is #6. this place is definitely my favorite truck board. its laid back, and i know several people on here in person.

as far as your hood cable, id try to re-route it through the grille. my crew had a broken cable when i got it, and the cable was hanging out the side between the grille and fender. im sure you can come up with several different ideas, it just depends on your pesonal preference of the level of jerry-riggedness you can tolerate on a daily occurance. id find another cable to swap it with, if it were my rig. i broke the one on my ramcharger a few years ago, and i think a new cable was like $80ish. when i posted about the one on my crew, a fellow 1st genner sent me one from his parts donor, and refused to take payment.

Does anybody know it you can retrofit a hood latch from a '70's truck? One with a handle in the grill?

I've wondered about that for quite a while now.

I didnt even think of that for some reason Pete! I am putting the final touches on the 91.5 and just bought a $150  hood release cable for it. I have a 74 Dodge (salvage) sitting across the yard. I should just tried to use its release cable and bracket. Oh well its done now.

I looked on my 90 duallie and with the PS intercooler it will never work. I gotta look at the 91.5 and see. I think its gettin a new cooler too though....
