HELP!!!

Postby 78bigrig » Mon Jan 12, 2009 10:24 pm

Hey, Ive got a couple of questions.

1. where can I find the serial number on my tranny so I can find out which tranny I got?

2. I've got a Dana 60 1 ton in the front and a Dana 70 1 ton in the rear. Where would I go to find the serial numbers on those so I can get the right housing gasket for them both?

I went to go pull my buddy's new superduty out and I fell into pretty deep hole trying to get to him so I got water in my engine, transfer case, and both diffs. Once it hit the water though it stalled and has not been ran since. Any suggestions on the best way to get all the water out and to get my baby going again?
I am pulling the front and rear diff covers and draining them, draining the engine oil and changing the oil filter then running for a day then repeating the process to insure all the water is out, draining the transfer case, replacing the spark plugs and that should hopefully fix everything. It wouldn't even crank over though. Could it be the starter relay got wet and just needs replaced or could it be the starter? Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated!!!!

*oh, its got the 360 engine but im not sure what tranny though.

Did the water get in the engine? If it did I hope you pulled out the plugs before trying to crank it. Im not really up on old mopar stuff but basically you had the 727 and the 904 trannys. ( If I remember right ). The 904 was the lighter tranny and not sure if they even put them in a 4x4. May be way off base.

It sounds like you might be hydro locked pull the plugs and give er a crank

As far as the tranny i'm not sure

The d60 and 70 both take the same cover gasket

I wish you the best of luck!! Every engine I ever saw pull water through the intake ended up with a lot of damage. Blown head gaskets, cracked pistons, bent rods. On the diffs just use grey silicone and don't worry about gaskets.

If the engine is bad, it'll be a good time to put a Cummins in it! Then you'll really be like us. ;)

On the diffs, I always use RTV, just clean it with brake cleaner, and put it on.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
