boost and my head

Postby 1991cummins » Wed Jan 21, 2009 10:15 pm

i may have already asked this, but i couldnt find anything when i searched

what is the defendable pressure that you should start worrying about retorquing/studding/o-ringing, such your head... i am now able to hit 40lbs of boost relatively easy, and i am starting to worry about this... what defences should i take, and whats the cheapest route...

does anybody know of a decent write up on how to properly retorque the head? i dont want to make a mess of my girl... i dont have the money for studs, so thats not really an option... so what are my options guys?

I want to keep my girl safe and runnin strong ;)

With 220k on the clock I pull 46PSI the heads never been TQ'ed or off... Allot has to do with your timing.. I am going with a O-ringed head better gasket and studs this spring... More fuel and timing looking for 400HP plus soon.

http://www.dieselpowermag.com/tech/dodge/0811dp_cummins_head_bolt_tech_how_to/index.html This article talks about how to retorque the cylinder head bolts and was written by JQMile (a member here).

If you're hitting 40psi on a regular basis, then the minimum you should do is a retorque. I would be saving up for studs though, for the extra assurance. 8)
