hx40 exhaust housing question

Postby Cowboy_Customs » Wed Jan 28, 2009 10:23 am

Will an HX40 16cm W/G housing fit and work on a..... WH1C? If not will it go onto anything other then an HX40?
How about an aftermarket 16CM W/G housing for a WH1C, are they available, and where?

NO 16cm wastegated housings for H1c's or HX35's

The exhaust impeller for the HX40 is a lot larger than the H1C/HX35 family. That large extra clearence between the wheel sizes wouldn't let you build any boost.

It would take a lot of fuel to get a 16cm^2 housing to overboost the WH1C. Enough fuel that the needle snapping off of your pyro would be more of a concern. Or, I suppose an external wastegate. I've never read about anybody needing or wanting a wastegate with a 16cm^2 housing.

I am more concerned about putting more then 40PSI through a non o-ringed, non studed engine then gettin the turbo out of its map honestly.
I just know me, and with a VE pump how do you resist turnin a screw here or turning a starwheel there........ lol

There's always the option of retorquing the the cylinder head bolts. Some of the guys around here have done it and had some good results. 125 ft-lbs seems to be the magical number. I think that as long as you don't have aftermarket injectors (something like 370's or POD's or larger), you aren't going to see 40 psi. At least not with intercooled injectors. The non-ic injectors maybe. I have the pump turned up about 3/4 turn from runaway and run a DDP fuel pin with stock injectors and I'm only seeing 32-33psi max boost. Everybody's experience is different, but I don't think it is really necessary to worry about it.
