Compressor Upgrade Suggestions

Postby cedardiesel » Tue Feb 03, 2009 4:10 pm

Hey I got a buddy that has a 1990 D250 automatic and he was wanting to build a intake and go ahead and upgrade the compressor side of turbo so he will have the noise and performance he wants the truck is currently stock besides sraight pipe. But soon is going to crank the pump up close to wide open would it be ok if he went ahead and got the 60mm upgrade?

it couldn't hurt anything.. maybe a little spoolup but if hes gunna be running a hot pump things will be getting hot literally with no intercooler and bigger stock injectors than the intercooled. yes it has helped keep my setup cool with pods and a tuned up ve.

If he is planning to keep the stock injectors, than I would say the compressor upgrade should be okay. If he could find a good used HX-35, that is also a big improvement over the stock 'baby" H1C.

For the price of a compressor upgrade you could buy a lower mileage 04.5-07 cummins turbo and sell your stock turbo. In the end my 06 turbo cost me $50 after selling my stocker.

60mm wheels and adjustable wastegate on the 04.5-07 turbo.

Hey how hard is the 04.5-early07 turbo to install and also how is the EGTs while running it and what kind of boost pressures? Becuase I have seriously thought bout doing that swap to mine also.
