installing injectors

Postby T.winegar » Mon Feb 16, 2009 6:53 pm

is there a thread already made on how to install injectors. i just got some and don't want to make a big mistake like last time on the pump.

if anyone knows of a prior thread, or will post some pictures with a step by step process, that'd be great!

thanks

Pretty basic. Be carefull when removing the drains so as not to lose any of the double washers, be sure to remove the copper washers from the injector bores in the head, spary some penetrating lube on all the injector hold down nuts the night before. Some times the injectors are really stuck, if they are you will need to build/get some kind of puller or slide hammer. On one of my trucks the injectors popped right out but on the other I destroyed the injectors on removal. Should be a piece of cake. :D

You guys are all welcome to use the technical information that I compiled in the following thread. Just go to the information links under "injector"

http://4btswaps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1076

The links are for the 4BT which in most cases is the same as the first gen Dodge 6BT except the two middle cylinders are missing.

The most important part of removing the injectors is not spinning them in their bores during the removal process. When removed the sealing washers are usually found stuck on the injectors.

Also see the no welding required homebrew injector removal tool I came up with using common hardware items. The down side is you have to join to see the pictures. :(
