Anyone experiment with a large 4 hole edm?

Postby peytonmaterne » Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:13 am

Just wondering how well a 4x18 or 4x20 would work compared to the popular 6x16 edms.

I can't imagine them atomizing very well. They'd smoke a lot and run pretty hot for the amount of power. You'd need a much higher pop pressure than a ve could handle to clean them up any. It would probably cost the same to edm 4 holers to that size as it would to edm stock ic'd sticks to 6x16s.

I'm pretty sure people have experimented with this, which is why we know the VE likes 6 hole injectors the most.

It all depends on the SPRAY ANGLE, not number of holes. The reason the 4 hole marine tips dont work (Bully Dog, Dynomite, et al) is they are designed for a larger piston bowl, putting lots of fuel on top of the piston. Stock nonIC injectors are 4 hole, and burn plenty clean when the pump is tuned right, with enough air. But they match the piston bowl.

Not to knock the 5 and 6 hole tips, but the 4 holers could work just fine. You just wont get as much fuel with a 4x20 as you would with a 6x18 or 6x17.

The cross sectional area of a set of 4x.018's would be just slightly smaller than 6x.015's. Its .00101736 and the 6x.015s were .001059 I think. I believe they would haze but make good power. If I pick up a non Ic'd truck the stockers are going to JL for some more breathing room. LOL
