Quick question

Postby Tacoclaw » Thu Mar 19, 2009 3:40 pm

I've been looking through the "good stuff" forum for a while and have found a lot of useful stuff here, and after moving my throttle linkage and spacing the cable from the pedal, I decided to ditch the high idle limiting screw.

Just wondering if it is possible to over turn the throttle shaft.

I got on it once afterwards, and it ran really good for about 2 seconds, then started to lose power before picking right back up again and continued to run great. I'll be installing a piston lift pump soon.

And to help out anyone elses search,

2 Seals #3918191
1 Fuel Line #3914753
1 Pump #3936320
2 Gaskets #3931348
1 Spacer #3914284

The numbers are Cummins part numbers.

I don't recall a snap-ring anywhere...

I called about these today and was given quite a runaround by my local Case dealer. After I ordered the parts, I was called back and told that The pump part # had changed and it was now a $345.82 part. The new # they gave me was 87473336. I told them to go get bent and ordered my parts through Cummins, and though about $20 more than the original price given for the pump, it was still below $200.00 for it.

Hope this helps someone out, and it may not be the case everywhere, I am hearing around now that my local Case dealer is bad about bending people over like this.

Yup, that's the newest part number for that pump. I checked on it just this morning, and that is the correct Case list price.

I also know that there is at least one pump with the original number in the Depot in Indianapolis. It showed up on the search this morning.
Oh, and the price for that is still around a $100. ;)

Thanks for the confirmation :)

Kind of sucks though. My Case place actually priced me $170 originally, then called me back and told me the new price. Totally ruined my day, that's for sure.

UPDATE: New pump installed, consider me a believer.

Used to top out at 70-75mph with high idle screw removed. It now runs full strength to 75, starts defueling around 80, and seemed to have at least 10 more MPHs to go.

There is also no more dead spot at any point in the RPM range, and I still have a nice haze at WOT, even though I have picked up about 15 psi of boost. :D :D

Big thanks to BC847 for his writeup on the piston pump install. Very helpful.

Now, about that torque converter.

I guess I should specify, I never had a haze after WOT...I just had the pre-boost haze, then it cleared up to nothing, with a stock H1C.

Now it has a really nice, not excessive, haze all through the RPM range. Regardless, I appreciate the helpful input from you guys, and i would like to say, regardless of my sobriety right now :D :D , well, that. Thanks to all who contribute here. You are helping someone out there.

My smoke stopped, but MPGs went up marginally if at all with the piston LP. An injector pump rebuild gave me 3-4mpg, though.
