Chocolate shake in the crankcase

Postby Begle1 » Tue Mar 31, 2009 10:06 pm

Apparently it's not a good idea to cruise with water at under 10 PSI boost and 900 degree EGT's.

I went through probably 6 or so gallons, those were the minimum settings. After I got to where I was going, there was chocolaty frothy on the dipstick. Changed the oil, it looked fine.

I was running oil pressure "1 white bar" higher with the old oil, the new oil is running in the normal white bar position.

300 miles on the fresh oil and the oil is still frothy on the dipstick, and now shake is coming out of the blowby tube.

What do I do? Change oil every 500 miles until the froth subsides? Don't worry about it? Dump in some magical snake oil?

Are you using coolant?

If not, I would say you may need to drain the oil overnight or something to let it all get out of there then try again.

Yeah. a definite answer as to the source of the moisture would be a good first step. I'm a little skeptical about that tho, because if you were using enough water to push it into the crankcase past the rings I'd a thunk it shoudl have hydrolocked or at least ran like crap, kicked, bucked, popped and stalled the engine.

Probably just ran the cylinder pressure up until it lifted the head.

I drove 20 miles home, then let it sit overnight, and now the dipstick is clean. It went from being completely cased in a 1/4" of mud to having an inch-long smudge.

:?

Maybe it'll come back after I drive it again, although the first time I noticed it was after it set for two days.

I think the headgasket is intact. I wasn't pushing it nearly as hard as I have in the past, no obvious oil in the radiator... I'll run it for a hundred miles and keep a close eye on my coolant and oil pressure. Might even get one of those "mix me with the coolant and suck me into a hydrometer" kits to be sure.

After I was cruising for a while I noticed that the water was actually causing smoke under a constant speed; it was increasing boost, decreasing EGT's, but also increasing smoke. Figured I was reducing cylinder temperatures to the point that combustion was becoming difficult, couldn't tell any difference in performance though. It still felt like power was increasing.

best thing i ever used to get water out of an engine was Seafoam.......

friend of mines brother sunk my buddies 250 suzuki quad above the handle bars in chocolate water........changed the oil twice, added seafoam and it was clean after the seafoam.........i did the same thing to a ford explorer, took all of the sludge out of the engine.......

When the water cools, it settles to the bottom of the pan. When it is cold, like setting over night, loosen the drain plug and let a little out and see if it's oil or water.
And dittos on the Seafoam. Chem tool is also good.
