After market lift pump

Postby 2wd_sled_puller » Thu Apr 09, 2009 6:27 pm

I am thinking about putting a lift pump on my old first gen. The pump i have in mine is a PPE 160gph pump. A question i have is an electronic pump should be able to keep flow enough fuel to the ve pump correct? Anthor thing i hear alot about is the fuel lines on these rigs. Will i have to put bigger fuel lines on this truck. If so what size should i go with. Is a VE more about volume rather then pressure?

Nahhh, a 160gph pump will be fine for what you're doing. Stock is probably like 30gph, so this will be a big improvement. I'd keep the stock lines too, might want to bypass the filter though, and put a sump or draw tube in the tank. Factory tank has a pickup of like a 1/4 of an inch. I am sure others will chime in.

The 160 will do ok. I switched over to a prostar500 gph pump. I never had a fuel pressure drop problem though lol. If you plan on doing inectors and twins like your sig says. I would upgrade all of the lines, get rid of the stock filter setup, and go with 1/2 lines. Also you will need a return style regulator. I think the holley blue pumps are like 120 gph and I could drop the inlet pressure to 0 with one of those.

Problem with the holleys is that they are rated 120gph, but only at 5-7psi, at free flow @ 14psi or whatever they are only like 75-80gph.
