ok so one more time just to be sure

it is a four stroke engine - so timing marks could be at the top and lined up twice in the four cycles

how do I make sure I am at the right cycle

or?

it doesnt matter so long as the marks are lined up?

I think it matters and that there is probably a quick and dirty method of determing the right cycle

Oops, sorry guys. When we did my friends pump replacement, we were told by the pump company that it could not move enough to jump teeth. His plastic TDC pin is broken too, so we took the old pump off, then rotated it by hand till the keyway looked like it lined up with the new one which was locked at TDC. I guess we just got really lucky it didn't jump. Thanks for the info.

OH man I wish it was true last year when I took my pump out trust me... I am about 80% sure that the 2ND Gen P pump trucks will not jump teeth. All of the guys telling me back when I did my pump told me it wouldnt jump a tooth. They all had 2ND Gens...

Took me several days to figure it out. I beet my head against the wall and finally took the cover bolts off on top pulled it back a little and sure enough it had jumped at least 2 teeth.

That makes sense, the shop we were dealing with was mainly a p pump shop. They had a ford in there, and 5 or 6 p pump trucks. I don't think they had done a ve pump replacement. I know they didn't rebuild them, they got it from industrial I think.

The marks will only line up one way and that is on 1 TDC, if you turn the crank 360 the marks will not be lined up. Just be sure you are using the right set of marks, the double 00 goes between the single 0.
