ok i took my pump off before i got #1 at tdc and im gettin the motor back from gettin rebuilt and the pump is probebly no where close to be right,how can i time the pump to the motor with not trying to geuss where it is and with out being 180*off(thinkin its like the distribitor on my gasser)can i time it with out takin the pump to the local shop or would it be better to take it to them?
'92 D350 cab and chassy,pump turned up with 1/8 timin,coaltriann 6x16 sticks,htt manifold,asa intake cooler tubez,south bend 13" clutch rebuilt G360,ps cooler,industrial super 62 phat shaft turbo,weldin bed.
12 Chevy 3500ltz lifted, deleted, and bed with sae 300 ss hood for new rig

Provided that the pump is assembled correctly, there is only one way it can key to the gear, and after it's keyed to the gear you rotate the pump until it's lined up with the timing mark.

So when its all timed and lined up it'll still hit on #1 or the firin order. I haven't done anything to the pump and the motor was runnin when taken appart

Or, you can unlock the pump, turn it so the key lines up with the keyway on the gear, and stuff it in. Good way to lose the key in the bottom, but it's an option. ;)
The pump turns 1-1 with the cam, so where ever the key way points, if the pump matches, it's correct and will run within the spread of the pump slots.
If you turn the engine over, have someone hold the pump gear to the cam gear so it won't skip a tooth.
