HOT EGT,S AGAIN

Postby 1STGENFARMBOY » Tue Sep 29, 2009 9:04 pm

Im new on the site so be gentle, Im ok with the performance of my truck for now anyhow but the egt,s are hi, I think they would stop around 1600 but i let off the throtle at 1500 at about 75mph, would a 4in down pipe and 60cm upgrade bring them down. poor and out of ideas.

You need more turbo and exhaust.

A 4" system will drop EGT's around 100 degrees. Thatis with a muffler or without.

A 60MM upgrade is only a stop gap measure. It might get you by for a while.

Like Philip said, a 4" exhaust and turbo are your best options. I also do not recommend the 60mm compressor upgrade for an H1C, because according to your sig. you have bigger injectors, and the comp. wheel upgrade will not cool as well as a bigger turbo. Get something with a 4" exhaust outlet, like an HX40 or S300.

You could also turn the pump down for a little while to help with the EGT's, but if the 1500* bursts are very short, you won't hurt anything.

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

Just pickup a taped banjo bolt. That will give you provisions for hooking the gage. A taped banjo bolt is normaly taped for 1/8" pipe thread.

An aftermarket exhaust manifold and 4-in exhaust helped my EGT's out a bit. Bigger tubes and free flowing intake would help a little too. I did the 60mm compressor upgrade and that just made things hotter for me. I got a lot more boost, but also more heat...mine, however, didn't have an intercooler though. Maybe look into water next...??? Or if you are feeling fancy and have access to it, a CO2 sprayer in front of the intercooler. I've yet to see a setup like that on a diesel, but I guess like any "bottle baby" upgrades, it only lasts so long...

Here is the tapped bango bolt that will work.

You could also put in a powerstoke intercooler while doing everything else, Tim make the cooler tubz provisions for a powerstroke intercooler install.

I bought a fuel pressure gauge kit from them and that was part of the kit. For what its worth, there are no employes there that have a first gen so they are not up to par when it comes to 1st gen questions.

I have bought several there. If they ask, tell them it's for a p-pump truck, a 96 or something. They are all the same up to the CR engines.

You might want to turn down the pump until you get a better picture of the cause of the high EGT's. You can always turn it back up. 1500 or 1600 sounds pretty high.
How about the "air in" side of the deal?

Hay ONTOS when i got the truck it already had some of the mods like, ddp sticks fuel pin exaust housing changed but the pump was untuched till i got it then the fun begins, i know i could turn the pump down cuz before i turned it up i pulled 2 antique john deeres that both weigh 6500 lbs and i could mash the peddel to the carpet and hold it and the EGT'S would hit 1125 and thats it, that beeing said i can also control them buy liftin off the peddel, but i also drive it like i own it and love the new power, so I DONT WANT TO TURN THE PUMP DOWN. thanks for the input i do enjoy talking to all you gents. i dont know why i start every thred with HAY it makes me sound like gommer pile or somthing. :bh:
