16 cm^2 exhaust housing

Postby Redneckintraining » Mon Oct 26, 2009 1:39 am

I have an HX35 on my 89 W250 automatic.I am wondering if swapping out the stock 12 CM (wastegate wired shut) exhaust housing with a 16 cm non wastegated housing would net a MPG gain?Ever sense I installed the turbo the truck gets 15 MPG no matter how I drive. With the old h1c it got about 17-20 mpg..

thanks in advance...

Turbine size is less crticial on an auto and smaller is waaaay better on a lightly fueled stick. I'd be looking at other things to find the source of the MPG loss, possibly your right foot....

OTOH, I suppose if you were spooling it quick and getting on it all the time, more fuel would be disappearing into the torque converter. Dunno.

I know with that truck there is no such thing as turbo lag.Boost is instant.Hell you can even hear the turbo spooling at 25 MPH in 3rd gear...

That's what I love about the 12cm on mine. It's so much fun to drive I had to install water/meth to cool it on the top end, rather than using a bigger turbine.
