Any reason to go larger than 435's on a 12mm pump?

Postby Begle1 » Fri Sep 11, 2009 9:23 pm

Has anybody seen gains from going larger than the 435's on a 12mm pump?

What's the largest injector that is wise on a 12mm pump?

Richie is running 6 x16's, but most else is stock and he's not really running it as hard as us nutcases do.

Yup. I have mine tuned to about 44 psi ( still way to hot ). I would say Im around 275 to maybe 300. Im still at stock timing. ( I don't like the noise timing gives and I do tow some ) The only downfall to big sticks is the haze. Everybody thinks my truck is worn out or junk because of the smoke. I stopped in front of my neighbors house and did a 1st gear powerbrake with no throttle, then blacked out the whole road. I really need traction bars. :D

Rich, you should give it the 1/8 bump in timing. Not much noise, and it may clear up some haze. 1/8 was about 1.65mm. Mine didn't really clatter until I hit 2.1mm.

Sorry for the 'jack Begle!

Somebody has to have went from 435's (or similar-sized injectors) to 6x16's or 6x18's with no other changes?

Way back when went from POD's (4x14's) to my Scheid 6x16's with no other changes and gained 10psi of boost. Can't remember if I had the kta pump or not.

My starwheel is way way up from stock. My smoke screw is all the way up. That did help on the low boost black coal but the haze is there to stay. I knew when I got them they would be hazzy. Im am very happy with them. They sure can make some power. Pete, I may try the 1/8th and see. But with stock timing and some 2 cycle oil the motor is very very quiet. It puts my 89 to shame on engine noise.

We went from the non-ic 4x12's to 6x16's w/ some internal mods and didn't really gain any thing stellar. Probably 9-10 psi overall boost. No afc in the pump. They do have more pre-boost smoke, a little haze going down the road.

I am pretty sure its just the limit of a stock 12mm.
When we had the 14mm on and it was a whole different machine, too bad it didn't last. :(

I got my 6x.016's from FTE

http://www.ftediesel.com/hp_adders/hp_home.html

$495 and I sent them a set I had laying around.

Will be putting them in this week - I hope.

Wellllllll

With the stock sticks and the ip 1/2 back from runaway my hx-40 would get ~ 32 - 33 psi. I had the starwheel 1 1/2 up from bottom and smoke screw oouuttt and all I got was haze.

The 6x.016's smoke whenever I want. I hit 55 psi with ease, then I hooked up the wastegate so now I'm limited to 47psi.
Kind of nice for a while punching it at 70mph and watching the black smoke roll....That lasted all of 10 min.
Starwheel is now 4 turns up, power screw is 1 1/2 turns off and I have to punch it at low speed to get smoke - but I still can.
Reasonable driving and passing on the hiway are ok. Well, passing is a new experience. About 1/4" down on the throttle and all of a sudden you're doing 85 - cool :D
Still need to play with the fuel pin timing, going to try some different springs.

I have the M2 pin in mine and it seemed to help the tune. Less fuel on bottom and more on the top. Kinda puts the starwheel and smoke screw settings back in play.
