When you are on the road you are on federal, state, or county property. As such no warrant is required.

Here in northern illinois they go to the farm auctions, and stick all the trucks parked in the street. there has been more than one old farmer caught that way. :?

First, rmauto1, where in N. IL are you? I live in Dixon.

Second, to avoid unreasonable searches, pull over on to private property, and lock the door. Then they have to provided a search warrant to go on to private property and access a enclosed shelter, or something or other. This is what my uncle (drives semi's in Chicago) told me and his brother (a cop near Chicago) agreed with him.

And if you do this while being pulled over for an inspection you can get charged with evading a police officer too!! Yaay! Why not just get your shot gun out of the back glass and lovingly stroke it while smiling and asking is there a problem officer?

A local Town Public Works truck was stopped at a store. The driver was getting coffee. He walked out of the store and there was a commercial truck cop looking over the truck. It was loaded with gravel ( 7 yard single axle ). Of course it was rigged with head gear for plowing snow as well. Needles to say it was way over loaded. The driver went back in the store and waited. The cop came in and asked who was driving the truck. He said as soon as it hit the street he was going to weigh it. The driver called his supervisor. The boss came over and dumped the load of gravel in the edge of the parking lot. Needless to say the cop was pretty poed. I thought it was funny.

Sounds like to much trouble to me. I would have let him given the ticket. Around here Public works=City. City=Judges Judges+Tickets to City = Cop in trouble. LOL Every law enforcment officer with his salt knows you don't mess with the government or its officials. I used to have a friend who drove the Governors limo. They were doing about 120mph on the interstate one day when a state police pulled them over. When the officer asked who owned this rig and was told the state Gov, he said have a nice day, drive safe and sorry for the inconvenience and got back in his cruiser. LOL

There are towns that will pull over police cars with cops in them for speeding. Thats no joke. The truck cops will go to a town road thats being rebuilt by public works, and weigh there trucks on the job site. Basically they give the town a summons for driving a overloaded truck on there own road. Now you know why my ass puckers when I see the commercial police. They all have suburbans with the scales right in the back.

I live in a little town called Alden, population 200. If you blink you might miss it. I'm about an hour east of rockford, and 2min south of wisconsin.

Had a full load of WVO in there. Cop was like "whatcha running?" I said WVO. He said "not legal" I said "where's it say that?" He went back to the supervisors truck, came back and asked where i bought it. Told him I collected and filtered it myself. He told me to have a good day and looked less than happy. I laughed, thanked him for his good service and took off.

Problem is, I understand that they run a field test on the fuel for sulfur content that changes color if the content is above a certain PPM.

Personally, if I am on the road trying to take care of my own stuff, delivering my own parts or picking up trucks I bought, I certainly don't want to risk getting nailed for something as stupid and AVOIDABLE as running untaxed fuel.
I'm already highly visible in the hauler, because of it's unique coloring and it's body "styling", so adding another nail to the whacking board won't help.
Maybe it IS better that top speed is @ 65mph!

Hello,

first post here.

I pay $2.49 for heating oil.

I pay $2.57 for diesel.

Not much savings here in NJ, that's for sure! ;-)
