On this side of the pond the ( second gens ) p pump's, in the dodge trucks anyway, run a higher pop pressure then the ( first gen ) VE's. My 93 stock sticks are stamped 245 bar.

The other day I found my stock 89 injectors but have not had time to take them apart and verify the spray angles. I will try to do that this weekend as the be all to end all this is what it is rather than someone said.

As for spray angles it just depends on what you want. The correct spray angle produces the least smoke, lowest emissions, least crankcase contamination, and least wear assuming the appropriate timing. Extremely high timing can negate all those factors. Wide spray angles can make more power, and typicly do, but they also produce more idle smoke and emissions assuming appropriate timing and piston bowl placement. In other words spraying in the bowl. If it sprays out of the bowl from too wide a spray angle or too much timing it will result in much more rapid cylinder wear, uneven cylinder temperatures, more crankcase contamination, and more idle smoke. Your likely hood of melting a piston is also much greater if you do this. There are work arounds to prevent such things such as over fueling to the point of dropping cylinder temps, but play at your own risk.

Oh and if somebody wants to send me a Lucas nozzle I will check its spray angle and add it to the list.

cummins

Postby keithhill1 » Fri Dec 18, 2009 6:26 pm

ok well i have a question that relates to this thread... i have a 95 ram with a shot engine..... i found a rebuilt engine from an 89 dodge ram and i was wondering if i put my head and p pump off my 95 engine on this block will i be able to run the 155 degree 370 marine injectors and be better off since the pistons in a 1st gen are for the 155 degree spray pattern???? i can get this engine for 600 bucks and if it will work i need to jump on it!!! any info would be great... oh yeah i also heard there is a difference in piston height is this true?

Yes it will work. No its not ideal. Cummins stated the rods in the old 6B to only be used for 2500rpm and slower applications. The later rods are supposed to be stronger and are suiteable for up to 3000rpm use. Now no doubt both versions have been pushed past theri design limits multiple times, but for maimum durability you would need the marine dual NI pistons and the new style rods. But for $600 to get your truck driving I say go for it and don't worry about it, just don't thrash the hell out of it all the time. 8)
