Fuel pressure gauge question

Postby PRINCETON_JAKE » Sat Jan 09, 2010 3:49 pm

I have a 1992 dodge cummin that i want to install a mechanical fuel pressure gauge on. I already bought the gauge and hardware, including a tapped banjo bolt fron genos garage. Is the banjo bolt sopost to go on the line from the lift pump where it connects to the filter housing? Is it possible to connect it after the fuel filter so I get a more acurate reading? Does anyone know the thread size for the fuel bleeder screw? Can I adapt the gauge to it?

Thanks, Jake.

The banjo bolt replaces the bleed screw banjo.

I didnt pull it out because the banjo bolt I got from genos looked bigger, I guess I'll try it tomarro. Do you have any pictures or links? I found a deal on a set of Bosch 190 injectors, but I've read they dont make an improvement, any input? My truck is a 1992 innercooled.

I never have run 190's but hear they are good for a slight upgrade. If you want lots of power go bigger. No pics of the fuel banjo. I should get one, your the 2nd one in 2 days to ask for one. :D

The bolts were the same size. I put in the genos garage banjo bolt and got the mechanical gauge hooked up. The fout cross drilled holes in the new bolt are quite a bit bigger, which should help flow more fuel. I also noticed that two of the holes were blocked on the old bolt do to overe tightening it are squezing the rubber washer. After i was done I had to take it for a drive to see what kind of pressure i had, before I install the new piston lift pump. At idle the highest pressure i ever saw was 5.5psi, accelerating it quickly drops. Anything over 3/4 throttle it dropped below 0psi!!! I hope I havent done any damage, I will be installing the new pump as soon as ot shows up.

That's about normal for a whipped stock pump. You'll be surprised with the piston LP. The truck will run better too. ;)

The piston pump is on order, the pump on it right now is a brand new carter diafram pump.

Have you changed the fuel filter lately? If that gets plugged it can do it too. FSM says 5-7 psi at idle, not less than 3 psi at WOT.

heres the "tapped" banjo bolt, aslo tell them you need 2 washers/seals, there extra but only like $1. DONT reuse your old ones. Even though it says 98.5 and newer it is the right one.

I can get you all the NEW part numbers for the pump and parts, to convert it to a LOW pressure PISTON style pump. Its not worth putting on a factory style pump, I tried that and it doesnt flow enough.

I only have stock fuel settings, but sometime in the future that will change. Will the different style lift pump be okay for stock injector pump and stock settings?

93dodgecummins, yes it will be fine w/ a LP lift pump or a HP lift pump w/ regulator.
