WATER PUMP HELP

Postby PRINCETON_JAKE » Mon Jan 11, 2010 7:28 am

THE WATER PUMP ON MY 92 HAS BEEN LEAKING A LITTLE, SO I WAS GOING TO PUT ONE IN TODAY. tHE PROBLEM I HAVE IS i CAN GET ONE WITH 5 OPEN BLADES OR ANOUTHER BRAND WITH A SHIELD THING OVER THE BLADES. I DONT HAVE MINE APART YET TO SEE WHAT IT HAS. WHICH SHOULD I USE, DOES IT MAKE A DIFERENCE?

ONE MORE QUESTION, WHERE IS THE FUEL HEATER LOCATED ON MY TRUCK?

I remember seeing somewhere recently where the shielded pump was reported to be the better design. No 1st hand knowledge on that, tho...

Fuel heater is above the filter.

I CANT FIND ANY THINNG OUT ABOUT THE DIFFERENT DESIGNS.

I WAS TOLD TO CHECK OR CLEAN THE SCREEN IN THE FILTER HEATER.

The heater and filter are two different units, with the heater sandwiched between the filter and the mount up under the manifold.

The p-pump trucks have a pre-strainer and fuel heater. It goes from there to the LP then the regular filter. All you have is the regular filter and the heater is above that. No cleaning neccessary.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

are you 100% sure about that?? from what i have found(first hand) pre94 trucks have the shilded, unless the water pump has been replaced. 95 and up have the open style pump like your talking about. in which case the new style open pump, pumps more.
