That is NOT an actuator what that does is bleed boost off so the actuator thinks its not making the boost it is supposed to be. In essence it lies about the amount of boost being made before the actuator opens.

I had one of those on my '01 with an HX35 for over 100K miles. Worked great.

Could someone just plug the boost port on the turbo and plum the waste gate actuator hose to the intake on the engine? I would assume there would be a pressure drop from the turbo outlet to the intake on the engine. It might add a couple pounds of boost more that way before the wastegate actuator opens.

I think you could but unsure how much of a drop there is, the bleeders allow you almost infinite adjustment. I had the same type of deal on an rx-7 and with a turbonetics 9psi wastegate I could easily make 40psi boost but ran it at about 15psi.

BTW the one I used was a simple air compressor regulator. They also make a "gillis valve" that will do the same thing with no creeping.

Mine runs about 2lbs. more on the turbo side. I have the W/M controller's boost coming off the turbo outlet and set to start spraying at 17psi. Flow indicator comes on at 15psi according to the boost gauge that sees manifold pressure.

Used a similar product on my old Mercedes to cure a weak, 24 year old wastegate spring and worked like a charm. I could dial it in to wherever I wanted like a charm. It's just a check valve that needs to be opened by pushing against a spring. The tighter the spring, the more pressure needed for it to open, when that pressure is high enough, it will allow air pressure to work upon the normal actuator. There is a TINY bleed so that when you let off the throttle, the pressure in the actuator line will bleed off and reclose the wastegate. Like said, works like a charm, and real easy to dial in where you want the pressure setting at.

At the end of the day, the waste-gate is there to protect the turbo and keep it in it's MAP. Driving the actuator with that referencing the intake log could result in over-speeding the turbo. :)

Are you really concerned with over spinning the turbo?
