rear seal on the ve

Postby ahale2772 » Wed Jan 27, 2010 6:28 pm

so i have had a job thrown in my lap to fix a friends leaky ve (isnt that embarassing), he is the most nitty gritty picky customer ever, likes to pull the plugs outa his cars when we do tuneups just to check the gap, yeah that picky and he is to stuck up to do anywork himself, but he has a 89 ctd that he bought recently and the ip has just started to leak, its leaking from somewhere under the bottom rear of the pump where the injector lines attatch to the pump, there is 4 bolts holding on the "hydraulic head" (as bosch calls it) and that had has a o-ring on it, im thinking it could be that has anyone ever seen or fixed that problem?

this link has a blow up in it i think part #50 is my culprit

Is this guy a good friend? If he's that picky maybe you should tell him you don't know enough about it to tear it apart and have him take it someplace. If you get done and it still leaks or does someplace else, you'll never hear the end of it. May lose a friend too.
If it was me I'd pass on it, just not worth the possible hassle.

hes a guy we work for and get many jobs from, so yes he would piss and moan for a year if it still leaked, i agree with you both it is 95%not worth the hassle but i was just wondering if that was a common problem, last job we did for him was replacing the powerseering pump, then 2 days later he calls back and says he wants a flow test to make sure we replaced the pump, he can be a royal #$@% he runs a "toy storage facility" aka storage for all kinds of high dollar toys and the town he is in is full of rich people (he carges 300+ to store a car for 1month)...

I think you're barking up the wrong tree as far as what's wrong with the pump. As fas as not being sure about working on a vehicle for a known picky customer - not gonna go there. The concept of "famous last words" comes to mind.

There are lots of critical parts and springs that come out when you take the head off. I would certainly NOT recommend trying to fix that yourself if you aren't familiar with doing that job. It can NOT be done while the pump is on the truck. It is a pain in the ass job to do, and if you don't get it exactly right you can easily have catastrophic pump failure.

hey guys, so this job has come to a head ive decided not to do it (because of the nature of the customer) dose anyone know a good place to buy a ve pump? im looking to get one coming so that i can have the new pump in hand before i pull his out of the truck, then send the core off, i hear talk of all sorts of different places but i dont know where to go!

put the new pump in sat, came out great and was much easier than i thought that little plastic timing pin on the back of the case is a godsend! also did a valve adj (every intake was at 20 tho and exaust at 30 tho) ...yikes! only toook me 3 hours to do the whole job, then the guy goes for a testdrive and roasts the tires up the street, he figures hes going to sell the truck now ill let u guys know if it is forsale, its a nice 90 w250 very clean with minimal rust (new floorrpans by me) and a very nice flatbed/dump body
