EGTs how hot is to hot

Postby ellis93 » Fri Apr 02, 2010 7:10 pm

Pullin with my truck today and the out side temps was in the 70s. I was pullin adout 11k and the truck wanted to run from 9 to 1000 on the pyro pullin some small hills. For now I have removed the 35 and reinstalled a freshly rebuilt h1c, untill my 35 is rebuilt then the h1c comes off again. This is the heavest I've hauled sence installin my gauges. If this is not normal how can I drop the temp without spending a ton of money. The truck alone runs 7 to 800. Thanks in advance.

If that is pre turbo temp you can tow all day at that temp. Just keep an eye on water temp and your good to go.

Everyone has there own idea but for me 1200 and under I don't worry about. I would bet at 1200 the coolant temp may start to creep up but the egt's should not eat the turbo or pistons at that temp.

Thank u for the info. The 35 cooled down the temp by 75 to 100. Truck empty. Never pulled with it wonder how its gonna do for me.

If you tow often, try swapping in a 16cm housing for the 12 in your signature. I'd bet it'll drop EGTs across the board towing, and not affect them empty. Even with 4.10s, you sound a little warm empty- I've usually run 10deg per mph, regardless of gearing.

Now if you run at 80mph all the time, then that is another story......

I keep it under 1300. The pyro I have is color coded, and it turns from yellow to red at 1250. If your temps are pre turbo, you're just fine. If post turbo, do a valve adjustment and check your timing.

My readings are taken pre turbo and with my h1c. The valves need to be ran on it I'm shure. The 35 did cool it of runnin empty but It wized oil all in my cooler so I pulled it off. Yall know it was a good deal gone wrong.
