Twin turbo options

Postby 1badve239 » Thu Sep 09, 2010 7:58 pm

Hi guys, I currently have a single hx40 turbo and would like to upgrade to compound or twin, (I forgot the correct term) I would like to get a turbo from the junkyard off of like a semi or farm tractor etc. what should i look for? I'm upgrading too a 14mm head, electric lift pump, cam, valve springs, studs and big injectors. I would like to get started on looking for a turbo because I believe this will take some time. Thank you for any input ;-)

The bottom turbo in my setup is a 75mm s400, part number 171702. I've read that it comes stock on 11.1L Detroit engines.

My vote goes to an HT3B. An S475 would be ok also, I just like the commonized HT3B

1badve, its compound. 1 turbo compounds the next turbo.

Twins are 2 of the same, like real twins. :D

I have an HT60 that I pulled off an N14, I thought the HT3B's were off the older 855's?

Though an HT60 will work fine as well.

I was looking at an HT3B today on an older 855. It came out of an '86 Diamond Reo. The exhaust housing looks huge! My buddy also had a HT4B sitting in the parts trailer. That looked waaaaayyyy too big.

I guess its just an upgrade for the Detroit, I thought it was stock on some.

Lots of cool stuff there for sure!
I actually got mine from http://www.turbosupply.net to the tune of $552.
The fleetsource link just had a better description. Turbosupply is a good place to get stock unmodified turbos if you know the part numbers, no special stuff.
