New(er) performance needs

Postby matchew » Wed Oct 06, 2010 5:09 pm

Got the truck running again. 130,XXX mile 12v and A518 trans, clean runs good. Put my +40 injectors in and ground my fuel pin. Pins the 30lb gauge but doesn't seem to be as fast as the old motor. Turned both smoke screw and star wheel about 2 turns down and the power screw 2.5 turns in, no run-away...got some smoke and will chirp the 37s from a stop. Seems to run a lot better, how much more could I get out of it before I need to worry about the tranny? I REALLY need to get my EGT gauge hooked up, all it has is the plug for the probe and 2 brass studs(mounting?)...I've plugged it in but no workie...does it need 12v?

If the probe uses wires then the brass studs will need power on one and ground on the other.

I was hoping that was the case. I'll hook it up this weekend. Anybody else?

Hold it.

I have found with a 2 post system, it has no need for a power line. It reads resistance. NOw if it has 3 posts, you have ground, power, sensor.

How does that work? Most sensors use some sort of voltage. How would u check it.

I'm thinking my probe must be bad. Wired the 2 studs and put them on the battery....you know, those wires would glow if the sparks didn't make me jump! I need a new probe AND the plug that goes into the back of the gauge. VDO here I come!

Was it made like a manual water temp gauge.

My DiPricol pyro is the same way. The probe somehow makes current to run the gauge. The only power is for the lights.
No capillary tube on it, like a temp gauge, only wires.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
