AS for the evil p-pumps, it's just the fact that anyone can hop up the pump and get 5-600hp out of it. They did that 10 years ago or more. Its more challenging to extract HP from the lowly VE (about 1/3-1/3 the size of the p-pump).

i always got a kick out of the hardcore ve guys disliking p-pump swaps but are ok with a truck with a dana 80, 47rh, cd player, etc. all of those are improvements but a pump swap is bad. :?

imho 1st gen is more about the truck than the drivetrain. i have always loved the square nose trucks despite what was powering them. to me it's about making the best modifications to a truck for your intended use. if thats a ve, p-pump, vp or commonrail (actually it could be a slant-6) i'm ok with it.

x2....although I am going to do everything I can with the VE before I switch (if I ever do)...I think the VE just has a lot more potential than people give it credit for. For me, the first gen body style was also a lot about the weight. My second gen 4x4 needs 150-200hp more to be as fast as my VE just based upon power to weight ratio.

im 20 years old, 95% of the kids i know who know anything about diesels/ cummins engines dont know anything about are trucks, pluss they dont get how a diesel can be modified without a chip, its just how it is, i love my truck because it has been so reliable to me, owned it for about 3 years, bought it in really bad shape but for those 3 years ive drivin it about 50k miles and ive had NO problems with the VE thats says something about the quality of the pump, that being said I have an attachment to it because it has served me well.....but that p-pump motor thats sitting in the school bus in my yard.... thats what goes in when the ve is either limiting my goals or it craps the bed
