Thermostat benefits

Postby Ram360man » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:43 pm

What temp thermostats come in our trucks factory and are there any benefits on going a little cooler like on gas engines? My truck takes off a lot harder when its only 1/2 way to 3/4 of the way warmed up. Once it gets to its normal spot on the temp gauge it gets slower and only spins the tires in first. When it isn't all the way warmed up it can roast them all the way into third from a dead stop with no brake. Once the turbo spools around 25 mph that is. I wouldn't go with a 160 degree thermostat or anything like that but would something 10-15 degrees cooler then stock help? Or am I just asking for trouble.

In my mind ( very small one ) its better to have it run warmer. 190 is perfect. A cool running diesel will not burn the fuel as good as a warm one. Thats pretty important. I have trouble in my boat with running to cool and its not a good thing.
