6.0 or 7.3

Postby lazyjoe » Fri Jan 14, 2011 3:05 pm

So which flows better. A 2003 6.0 powerstroke intercooler. Or a 7.3. There's a guy trying to sell one, claiming the 6.0 does.

are they both aluminum ? are they both the same size , ..... meaning does the 6.0 fit on a first gen easily ?

the aluminum 7.3 cooler fits on a first gen , i assume the plastic 7.3 one fits too .

the aluminum ones are much stronger and easily repaired .

if the 6.0 cooler is plastic and /or doesn't fit a first gen , it doesn't matter if if flows more or less than a 7.3 cooler .

I have heard a 7.3 will fit better in our trucks. Maybe the 6.0 is bigger and will flow more, but will it fit in our small area?? I know my 7.3 cooler just fits between the frame and the hood latch area.

6.0 has plastic end tanks. I wouldn't get it.

I think there was a guy on DTR that put a 6.0 'Stroker cooler in his 1st gen. From what I recall (which isn't much these days, and I'm not even old) he had to put a lot of work into it, and fabricate a lot of parts. Maybe it was a 3rd gen intercooler though...

Regardless, I'd stick with the 7.3 intercooler. Proven to work good, and not *that* hard to install.
