camber

Postby gobigorgohome » Sat Feb 05, 2011 6:57 pm

well i was gettin off work today and i was walkin to the front of my trk and i noticed taht my alignment was out a lil so not knowing itf it was caster or camber i looked on the www and found out then i got a lil more info from a secret place and my luck has it that camber isnt adjustable on 4x4s :( so what do i do? is it the joints that are bad or what. i had the front axle in the air about a month ago and i checked for bad bearings and anything else bad but it was all tight. and at that time i dodnt notice the camber. and it does see fresh grease regularly. so does anyone know what i can do to fix it before my tires go tits up?

Specialty products makes offset ball joints to adjust caster and camber on solid axles,if they use ball joints. I have used them in the past. But on king pins its not going to happen. Some semi shops that still cold bend axles could help but it is unlikely your axle requires any thing. Probly just a wheel bearing. Jack one side up at a time and use a pry bar to lift the tire up and down. Then push and pull at the top and bottom.the Slack should show itself.

They make those kits for the king pin axles too. I have seen them talked about before. It was a couple years back.

Moog makes an adjustable lower king pin and Specialty makes an adjustable bushing for the upper. It depends on how much correction you need.

Anyone have a link to a pic of the adjustable king pin. I'd like to see one. Curious as to how they do it.

Good thing I checked before I posted...I have the same issue and I was looking for a thread describing how to rebuild the kinpin's, my drivers side is about to eat all the tread on the inside of the tire its still driving straight and level but u can visually see the camber is off

Scroll down the page and you'll get an idea as to how the upper works.

Keep in mind, if these old trucks have ever been rolled over, or in an accident where the front axle could take an impact with that heavy Cummins over it, it's entirely possible to bend the tubes on the housing.

Something to keep in mind, especially if you like to go play in deep holes and ditches.

Mark.

Before you get too crazy bending axles and offsetting kingpins, you might want to try rebuilding your kingpins.

http://pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PR ... index.html

I put new springs and bushings in the top section of mine a while ago and it only took about an hour per wheel. First time I had ever done it, and it fixed my camber problems.

The springs/bushings are pretty cheap, but get into the actual kingpin itself and the bearings in the bottom half, it gets pretty pricey.

went ahead and ordered the springs and bushings and my luck it got declined prolly cuz i used a debit card for it when they wanted a credit card, went to 4x4factory and they also wont take debit for it and i dont have a credit card or i would use it so my alignment will stay messed up for a while till i can get the parts local i guess :?

You don't have to order it from them, just type in "Dana 60 kingpin rebuild kit" into google. There's all kinds of driveline shops that sell them.
