Is the ebrake cable stuck? If its just the shoes rusted to the drum try beating it with a hammer. Just be somewhat careful. A guy here in town put his truck in low range and busted the backing plate mounts right off the axle housing by trying to drive it. He is also the guy who got his chimney brush caught in the chimney and tore it right off the house hooked to his pickup.

As far as starwheel question, you can try to losen, but drums usually don't get overtight unless its adjusted that way manually. Not sure on direction. I always have to figure that out.

I *think* the star wheels are directional, and if they're not, something in there is. Just turn them in the direction with the most resistance.

you will need to move the star wheel upward,to back them away from the drum.
to do this you need a screwdriver in the hole to hold the small arm that touches the star wheel, hold it towads the backing plate, while turning the star wheel upward with brake adjuster or another screw driver. good luck
