the plastic line is used on trucks and heavy equipment so vibrations and sunlight aren't an issue. looking inside the frame rails of any of the tractor trailers.. its all synflex. They switched to it years ago after copperline..and that was in the 60's. as fro the draw straw it was added by the previous owner. he had ruber fuel line and i took that out ..it was dry rotted and it was less then 2 years old. another eason to use the synflex. He used a bulkhead fitting to the tank top. The top halve he added a 90 tee, and on the bottom halve is a long extenstion that extends down to the bottom of the tank I can get a closer picture for ya here:

I couldn't find any pictures of the fitting or the draw straw setup. On my first gen I fabbed up a custom steel tank with a bottom sump and baffles and 1 way trap doors to keep fuel in the sump etc

Deo, why'd you use the small line? I used 5/8" on mine to have the .49 ID. I also used the push to lock connectors instead of the compression, just shove the ring down, yank the hose out, and do what you need to do. No new ferrules needed that way, and you can reinsert the hose and go. I also put a valve on each side of the prefilter, less priming that way. I'd like to add a baffle or a sump to mine, at a 1/4 tank the fuel pressure guage gets dropping and makes me nervous! ;)

Deo, I went to the Parker fluid connector store today and that eclipse line is half as much as the pushlock stuff, good call

welded the ends on the manifold this weekend, man the plasma makes 1/4inch steel short work, i'm going to weld a piece of an intercooler tube on the front end of the manifold, I figure i dont ever want to get past the point of what a stock/ heavyduty silicone intercooler boot can handle for pressure so why go through and weld a fancy flange on the front like ZZ fab does.

bad news:

even though i welded the entire manifold while bolted firmly to the head i noticed it warped quite a bit, with one end bolted down the other end is up about 1/16 of the head when loosly bolted down. I did build a piece to bolt that font tab down this weekend and i mocked it all up and it will suck down flush when bolted down firm, just hope its enough pressure to seal the gasket well.

should i use some of that copper gasket spray stuff? I have herd good things about it

boght one of these this weekend its coming in a kit this week, made by Foredom supposed to be very quiet and durable, pretty excited to get some porting done on the head, the sales guy said it was beefy enough to use a cutting wheel in heavy steel 8)

couple pics, ends are made out of 1/4 plate, considering setting up a plate that i can bolt to the flange and pressure test it, but thats alaht of work :?

made that mount for the front hole, works really well hope leaving the manifold under lots of pressure dosent lead to problems

flange im going to weld to the front:

thanks Koberman, no there is alot to port, or atleast clean up, ive read that neither the ex or int runneers should be ported heavy for velocity reasons but some guys say with heavy work in the bowls and a clean up on the runners 20 lbs can come out of a 12v head...holy crap!!!

Ellis, If i had the access to a really accurate mill i would BUT my shool made it VERY clear to me that after the PTO covers they wont let me do any paying jobs on their campus.... oh well....guess ill just have to say its for my other truck...and then my other truck.... :D

my dad and i have considered investing in a cnc mill but the technology changes so fast that a machine is almost redundant once it comes out :? , our two mills at school are 1 and 2 years old and they are allready being pressured to upgrade

I thought you made the covers for your friends and were getting donations to cover the cost of materials? ;)

Maybe buy 1 of the schools mills if they upgrade?
How new and modern do you need be to make PTO covers?

yeah i have thought about buyin one of their machines but we dont have the volume to justify it either, best part about doing the covers with the cnc was that i cut all of the holes in about 1hour, clamp a blank in the chuck press go, drill six holes and its done, clean easy accurate ... the only point of the cnc...

the school is upgrading there whole Beginners welding milling/sheetmetal lab and throwing out all that "junk" (including the 30 year teacher who has more experience than all of the faculty combined  ) and hiring some computer geek to teach freshmen how to operate the 20 new machines (25grand a piece!!)

lots of people are mad about the school ousting the old technology but then again no one in industry is using leather belt lathes any more...oh well :?

I did post a video in the original thread of the cnc cutting the holes for one cover, but thats was a while ago

the conversaion with the Lab boss when he found out i was selling them was interesting, I did work in the lab so all he said was make sure to keep it low key, but you could tell he was nervous that it would get out. something called a "no-competition clause"

someday ill make another batch and advertise them really well

The way they have been selling, I bet you could make some good money from them. You might want to look into getting a patent for them and then you're the only one who can make them, or sell the rights and get a % of each one sold. ;)

I bet if i did patent them and advertise them well they would sell, I havent really made any money off them but I like the idea that I made them and they work. If any thing it will look killer on my resume for jobs and such 8)

Any one know what it takes to patent something? definently dont want to pay much to do it

yeah thats what i was worried about... lawyers, I asked "inventhelp.com" and "dirtcheeppatents.com" and the lowest price for a Utility patent (the paper work alone not the 200$an hour for the lawyer) was 2195$...ouch

for that money ill risk some one taking my idea

Alex you seem up on lathes so I'll ask you this, what is an American Peacemaker lathe worth? It has a 5' bed and 4 different chucks,3-3jaw and 1 4jaw. It also has an assortment of tooling with it. It is an OLD one but still in great shape.
I hooked it up a few weeks ago and it all seem to work( the diff spindle speeds and feeds)
