Isspro R5503 tach problem?

Postby 93DodgeCummins » Tue Apr 12, 2011 5:03 pm

I just bought a tach and i hooked it up and everything works. Idle shows like 750rpm. But when i rev it moves kinda slow. When i am driving and go WOT and when the fuel cuts out at high rpm its only showing around 2200 rpm on the tach. Is this right?

The action is slower on the R5503 then it is on the R8503. I also had a 55 that was no good when new. I sent it to isspro and Don tested it. He said it was frigged. They sent me a new one. The 2200 rpm's is low, but it may very well be turning that slow. If the linkage is not correct it may not be revin up.

If your speedo works correct and you know your gear ratio you can figure out what the rpm's should be in a gear at said speed. That would be an easy way to see. Or you could stop at a tractor shop and have them put an optical tach on it. That would be the best way. If its off, and its new Isspro will repair or replace it. Mine was reading way low when I knew there was an issue. It showed 400 rpm idle and like 1800 reved to the moon. I knew better then that.

it seems that after about 1900 rpm it starts to go up slowly after that and the rpms are still going up. I also bought the gauge from genosgarage so would warranty still be good?

If you just got it then I would say they will stand behind it. Just make sure you have checked it somehow before you call them. Mine was so far off I did not check it. You can also call Don Wendlick at Isspro. He is the tech guy there and will answer questions. I have talked to him a few times. 1-800-888-8065 ext. 3402.

well i did some tests on the crank with some tape and rotor speed tach hand held. (its for my model airplanes) It was reading right at 1400 so i decided to see if it read right at rev limter and it was reading just a tad over 2800 rpms. I think this sounds right. Is that what stock rev limter is?

With no load they are around 2900 to 2950 wide open if the throttle is getting all the way to the throttle stop. I would say 2800 is pretty close. Was the throttle lever on the pump hitting the adjustable stop? Is the tamper cap still on the throttle stop screw?
