NEW TRUCK!!!!

Postby collegekid » Fri May 13, 2011 11:20 pm

Ok guys, I just bought a 1992 w250 cummins, 5 spd. I have a laundry list of wants that I want to do to this truck. I am going to need as much advice and/or pointers that ya'll have. First off, I would like to turn the truck into a D350. This means a 4wd conversion, but also dually hubs, both front and rear. I am thinking to first put hubs and fenders on the rear, then stick the solid axle under the front with suspension and steering. Then do my 2wd to 4wd tranny mod and t-case install???? Does this sound practical to do in a couple weekends (hubs and solid axle one weekend, tranny and t-case the next) Then on to performance, what do ya'll think about my plans, are they realistic...Also, what is a solid, worry-free, proven setup, that is cost effective for running 350RWHP with my setup? Daily Driver, decent fuel mileage, but still fun and powerful.

a D350 is 2wd.. hence th eD... if you want a W350 they aere available in both SRW and Dually versions.. so you basically want to do a 2wd to 4wd , and dually conversion..
Post up some pictures etc...I grabbed soem dually axles my last junk yard trip..debating making my W350 SRW a dually or not..I'm leaning no due to mpg...and tire costs..
Thanks,
deo

I don't think it can be done in a couple of weekends unless you have a willing crew to help on it. It's a big project to swap the front to a straight axle, the T-case is the easy part. You'll need to remove the A-arms and mounts, add spring hangers, springs, and a bunch of other stuff.
You may be better off to sell the truck and buy a 4x4, or buy a 4 wheel drive donor truck, and part out the rest of it.

Ya, I am kinda stuck with this truck though, I figured once I had all the parts, Spring hangers, shock mounts, steering box bracket, axle, wheels and dually hubs, I could spend Friday night into Saturday lunch dissasembling, and Saturday after lunch to Sunday night drilling holes and bolting up. Ive got two guys that are full-time mechanics, so I figure with free beer and food Ill get full devotion. Lol

It sounds like you have the parts and a plan, just don't give 'em the beer until late in the day!
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
