No click with starter

Postby collegekid » Fri Jul 01, 2011 7:53 pm

Truck has been sitting while I did the KDP and new fuel system, replaced the IP, LP, installed regulator etc....Today I tried to start the truck, and lights came on, turn the key.....no click, no nothing, lights on the radio go out, but nothing on the starter clicks, I just took the starter out and when I hook it up to a charger, the solenoid hits, no spin, so bad starter, but even so, when I turn the key the starter should at least click, ideas?

The big red wire is hot in the column, big yellow wire is hot when you try to crank the truck (ignition wire) but touch em together and nothing, could I have forgotten to replace a ground on the front timing cover??

All righty then :D. Battery chargers positive hooked to the battery cable lug and ground hooked to the starter case. You've taken some sort of jumper wire from the chargers positive to the small lug on the noid and no worky ,right. If I understand you right then there may be a stuck brush in the starter

Ya, but even with a stuck brush, when I turn the key, the solenoid should still hit, but Im getting nothing, the solenoid hits off the battery charger tho

Well siht! :bom:
The ground from the battery should hit the block on the driver side, maybe its loose?
If you have a test light, probe the small wire for the starter and get that riddle over with. If you don't have one ,buy one. Its a dang good investment on our trucks.

Ok, no power to the small wire, power at the smaller red one coming off the positive pole, but at the end of the lead, no juice...next step is.....im terrible with chasing down electrical gremlins

There's a relay on your inner fender that goes to the starter relay.

Here's a thread from a little farther down the page, same deal it sounds like.

Forgot about that thing
Check all the fuse links right there by the battery. Pull on them, if they stretch there bad.

Which part?

I have a good friend down at the tip, about 15mi from the US/Mejico border. I also have a great aunt and uncle (who I am named after) living in Dallas.
