new truck, got a problem

Postby mprmn08 » Tue Jul 05, 2011 6:33 pm

So i just picked up the truck in my sig and when it warms up (sometimes when its not warm but not as bad) it seems to pull the idle down way low. i dont have a tach but it sounds about right when its in neutral or park. what is idle spec in and out of gear with your foot on the brake. also the brake and abs light come on when it does it. i was wondering if that was due to the pump not making enough pressure due to the low idle? thanks

Might wanna change fuel filter. Hook up a giuage and check yer fuel pressure. The brake light is probably coming on cause the engine is not turning fast enough to create enough vacuum.

Just idle it up a little. I do mine just low enough so it won't bang into gear. I shoot for 750 to 800.

i run my about 850 to 9 in the summer due to the same problem, i turn the idle down in the winter time and it seems to work jus fine, with mine when you start it it will run 900rpms and then run it hard for a couple hours in 100degree weather and it will drop to about 600rpms

That usually means the pump is on its way out. An idle that lowers with temp.

is it still signs of a possible pump going out if it idles fine in park and neutral all the time, cold wamr doesnt matter? it only does it when you put it in gear and its not always that bad. sometimes it drops only a little, sounds like maybe 100 or so rpm but some times it does lug it down pretty good.

Its going to come down some in gear. Thats just the conv trying to bite. Just idle it up a little and see what it acts like. You just don't want a bang when you shift.
