What Turbo

Postby ivel_86 » Thu Jul 07, 2011 12:19 pm

Now dont crucify me please and know this isnt a what to use turbo. I am wondering what turbo I have. I have a basicly stock truck 1993 W250 extended cab. The trubo says "holset" on it and is wastegated. I have been thinking of getting the smalled housing so I can spool faster but all of the "ads" say non-wastegated? what do you guys think? I will try to take a picture of it tonight. But any help would be great, THANKS

Chances are the turbo has been swapped. Most 1st gens come with a H1C(non-wastegated). That being said, it may be a WH1C(wastegated version), HX35, HY35. Pictures, and/or numbers, would probably help.

The housing could have been swapped also. I think there should be a law that requires the previous owner(s) to divulge ALL the stinkin modifications that have been done to the truck. And make it punishable by dragging down the street behind said truck.

Possibly a WH1C. An HX35 uses a snap ring instead of the band clamp on the compressor. That is also not the typical band clamp for the H1C, it has mount tabs.
What does the data tag say?

Ok So it said H1C on the data plate. SO what does this mean? Can I put a 14 or 12mm housing on it for faster spool? Does it matter that its waste gated?

If it says H1C, then the exhaust housing has been changed. If it is off an early 2nd gen HX35, which I suspect it is, then it is a 12 already. Look around on the exhaust housing and see if it has a number cast into it.
