I think 3-4 years ago they would have been a good thing to buy up.
but now the cats out of the bag and they are already expencive.

so as of now no you can't buy some for an investment.

I still think a person can buy a truck from the dry climates for around $1000-$3500, maybe do all of the necessary paint and interior work, along with the confounding electrical work.
This person could also do the typical pump re-seal, turbo rebuild/upgrades, along with the suspension repairs, should it need any.
If this same person is a shrewd purchaser, he knows how to check the drivetrain over for the typical failings, that while minor to some, can cost an un-informed person big $$$.

Think about it, $10,000 is a fair budget to have available to spend on a running driving truck, that otherwise has bad paint, bad interior and your basic wear and tear.

You forgot that the Getrag likes to "howl and growl", the electrical is a ghastly bowl of multi-colored spaghetti, that gives ghostly symptoms, fit and finish is something that is elusive.
They accelerate too good, stop too bad, and just in general are cantankerous.

I don't know where else to begin. :;-|:
